A Very Velveeta Christmas

Welcome back, happy Holiday ho ho's.   Got a special treat today, a few Country groaners so cheesy or painfully emotional as to be almost brilliant.  Almost.  This may not be our only post where we dip into the fondue.  Oh, my.

Dave Dudley has created some of the best trucking tunes in the world.  Unfortunately, he also gave "Lonely Christmas Again", a miserable wreck of a weeper.  King of Western Swing Bob Wills does him one better with "Empty Chair at the Christmas Table".  And finally, we lighten the mood with a tune from Boxcar Willie, in which a very special little tow truck helps Santa out for Christmas.  "Timothy the Tow Truck" could be an after school special for the drooling 4-year old set.  The song even features a singing (shouting) kid choir, oh yes indeed.

Santa's bringing boxes of Velveeta as stocking stuffers this year!

We wish to really, really, really apologize for today's post.

Yippee Ki Yay Santa

Holy Night! You thought things couldn't get better round these Egg-Nogged blasted nether regions of the Holiday internets. Well, it just ramped up, and the gifts just keep on a givin'! Today's re-post alone will be set your Holiday lights a-spinnin'! Oh, yes.

But let's kick things off with what most of y'all are here for, the Honky Tonk decoration that makes your aluminum tree just right.

Little Jimmy Dickens starts the holly jollies with one our fave rave Xmas tunes 'bout a little shaver on Christmas morn', "Barefooted Little Cowboy". Follow that up with a bluegrass/rockabilly raver from Benny Martin, a two-stepper from Charlie Stewart, and a weeper from Lulu Belle and Scotty, and you've got fiddlin' little party set for the decorating the Christmas tree.

Oh, but then it gets better. Our re-posts today come courtesy of a Semi-crazy Santa. Yup, we're re-gifting some classic Christmas truckin' tune. Red Simpson. Dave Dudley. Dale Watson. Is there anything more to be said? Santa's a mean mother trucker, and he's got 18 wheels to prove it.

Santa's Fiddlin' With Himself!

Sixual Healing

Ooops. We missed our Deep Blues Thursday post. The fault is entirely mine. We'll make it up to you over the next few weeks.

As a reward for your patience, we're gonna offer up another of our world famous 6 Packs for your weekend enjoyment. 6 fantastic tunes pulled from a variety of vinyl rekkid sources, of the 7, 10 or 12 inch persuasion. It's all about the love, baby.

We've got the Box Elders kicking things off with a jaunty organ-drenched number from their brand spanking new record, Alice and Friends. Old friend Dave Dudley checks in next with a swellegant tale of altered consciousness, off the album "One More Mile". Next, imagine if Bobby Dylan were a Scotchguard-huffing laddie lad. That's what you get with The Strange Boys in a tune off their "...And Girls Club" LP. After that Red Sovine wants to send a message, courtesy of "Tell Maude I Slipped". Got a god-fearing and god-loving b-side by the mighty '68 Comeback, from their 7", "Flip, Flop, Fly". And finally, from before rural psych was a hipster's wet dream, there was The Strapping Fieldhands. From their record Discus, a warped little pastoral about...well, you tell us.

Songs are arranged in no order whatsoever, other than some weird internal mix tape obsessing. So check 'em all out, and hand out copies to yr friends.

Box Elders: Death Of Me (mp3)

Dave Dudley: When I Get Back To Normal (mp3)

Strange Boys: This Girl Taught Me A Dance (mp3)

Red Sovine: Tell Maude I Slipped (mp3)

'68 Comeback: He's My Everything (mp3)

Strapping Fieldhands: Boo Hoo Hoo (mp3)
