Bakersfield Mourning

Sorry about that. Think I found enough bandwidth to get me through the rest of the month.

Time to close up the honky tonks. Buck Owens died this weekend. You'll never see his like again, really. A giant, one of the last vestiges of classic country, and still performing up until his last hours. I don't feel like being obscure or trying to be clever today. I just feel like listening to some seminal Buck. Proper eulogies can be found at yr favorite country music sites.

Thank you for your post. Buck Owens was recognized as a legend in the making from his earliest days, and he fulfilled that destiny up to his last moments. I am sure that his influence will be felt for many years to come.

i love the sound of honky tonk and nobody did it better than ol' buck. I originally came to him through listening to Dwight Y and the Bakersfield sound...and I always put Buck on when I need a spin around the floor, fantastic stuff!! yep the likes of him won't be seen again.

Good Stuff...

Is there still any way to get the St Patrick's Day post archives?
;-)

Cheers

There'll never be another. He may not have been the first, he may not have been the biggest, but he was the best.

A real sad weekend. Cindy Walker died Thursday as well.

I came to Buck Owens the way most every other kids did who grew up rural in the 70s: Hee Haw. (And not only ain't I ashamed, I still recite the gags now and then.) He was a great talent and a great entertainer. And he will be missed. A tragedy too about Cindy Walker -- had hoped she'd get to enjoy renewed attention now that Willie's got an album of her songs out there.

Sad about Buck Owens - enjoyed the 2 songs greatly.
Are you ill or away? I have your blogg as a home page as I usually enjoy what you have to say - very little lately it's sad to say.
The group of songs you listed a couple of weeks ago - I would really apreciate your posting them again as when trying to download them I was advised insufficiant band width. As I live miles from anywhere in the Australian outback and a baby boomer they are from my youth.

Nice blog, just surfed on in.

I really like the way roads in America are named after people like Buck Owens. That's a great picture by the way.
